Emma Brady attended the teaenters’ convention at Indianapolis last Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John Spitler of Hammond came last Friday evening for a visit with relatives here. Frank Fuller and family motored to Lake Village and attended the Republican Rally last Saturday. Mrs. Tom Spitler and Mrs. Henry DeFries visited Mr. and Mrs. William Gundy at' Roselawn Sunday. Master Thomas Spitler is the proud owner of a goat which he expects to ibe driving before long. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Ritter of Hammond visited here Sunday at the home of her father, Peter SomTOm Gundy of Gundy and John DeFries of Chicago visited Sunday here with Mr. and Mrs. Henry De We learn that recently Mrs. Lucy Ritenour and Mrs. Fannie West, former Roselawn residents, had passed away. Mrs. Albert Helsel and friends, and Mrs. Henry Cobb autoed to Wednesday to Range Laie and other pdints north. ■ Mrs. Paul Cyphers has sold hw residence property here to Joseph Parrish and expects to make her future home in Gary. _ Mrs. Henry Cobb spent Sunday in Roselawfi with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gundy and also with Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Kight. The community meeting held here last Sunday evening was largely attended. Several speeches were given which were very interesting. . Mrs. Ross Plowman is moving their household Soods to • Watersmeet, Mich., where Mr. Plowman is superintendent of the schools. The Catholic church bazaar held lastt Thursday and Friday was’ well attended and the affair was a great success financially. Mr. Odle of Rensselaer, who has been helping Ross Ropp on his ditch work, returned to his home last Saturday evening. The public, sale of Mr. Girdon Hendrickson was held last Saturday afternoon. Fair prices were received, for the many articles sold. Alfred Clager returned home from North Dakota Tuesday evening. (Not via, airship). Shorty said old Indianny was good enough for him. Mr. and Mrs. Turner, who have been living, in the Charles Brown house, southeast of the school house, have taken possession of the Gorman house. Vern Davisson went over the top for you. He is candidate for Sheriff of Jasper county- Vote for this soldier boy no matter what your politics are. ~ Mr. W. D. Meyers has purchased another riew car, of the Dort tribe.W. D. seems to think that -they are the fastest piece of animated iron 4n the country. Mr. Allen, who superintended the dredging of the Kankakee river, it at present at Manila overseeing government canal work in the Philippine Islands. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Paden of Wooster Lake, 81., while on their way to Bass Lake, Ind., last Saturday, stopped at Wheatfield and took dinner with Dr. and Mrs. Bucher.

Mrs. Gwin, woman district chairman for the Democrats of the 10th congressional district, made an address here last' Thursday evening on the League of Nations to a large and appreciative audience. Mr. and Mrs. George Swisher, Mr. and Mrs. " James Clark and son, Presley, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bush and family and your correspondent were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Bush last Sunday. William Smith and family of Chi"cago visited with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wagner last Friday partaking of a big dinner given in their honor. This is the first time Mr. Smith has been here for over 8 years. * Reports from the hospital at ValSiraiso regarding the condition of rs. A. L. Jensen- and W. H. Manor, vfco recently underwant serious surgical operations, are very encouraging, both patients are getting along as well as could be expected. The Fair held at the Primo, by the Catholic congregation here was well attended and very liberally patronized. The fish supper held Friday evening was’the star attraction. Bloomington, Ind., immediately after election. The former will locate in Bloomington, while Mir. and Mrs. Guy Dobley and family will locate on a farm about two miles from the city. We are sorry to see them leave out are glad that they are locating in such a fine place. The oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Roeth, who lives west of Lowell, was attacked by a bull and killed a few days ago. When found by his mother he was almost dead. The families of Andrew and John Misch and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ferrel attended the funeral at Lowell last Friday .which was very largely attended. We wish to extend to the parents of the unfortunate young man the sympathy of their many friends here.
FAIR OAKS SCHOOL.
The pupils of the Intermediate room are selling papers to buy pictures for their room. They already have enough sold for two splendidly framed pictures. Robert Cover is out this week on account of the serious illness of his sister. The Sophomores are doing two Latin recitations a day now to make up lost time. Scene; English room. Actors: Soph. English Class. Subject: “As You Like It.” Bob: “Tomorrow is the joyful day, sweet Edna.” The basketball team played the Hebron team at Hebron Friday night and came away with the short end of a 13 to 36 score. The new basketball suits are here. They’re “nifty” too. The entertainer for the Lyceum bureau failed to appear Monday night on account of failing to make train connections. The program will be tried again November 12. We are cataloging the library now, and hope to have it in shape soon. Patrons or anyone are asked to read the bdoks. Principal A. C. Cass Cross is moving the old school building for a store room for Frank Shinabarger. Bob Johnson and Lyvah Clement spent Sunday with George Hathaway and family on the farm. Guy Dickey, who 'attended the Teacher’s State Convention, reports that the attendance was about 15,George Dickey and family and Mrs. Josephine motored to Monon Sunday and visited .relatives and friends. Don’t fail to stop at the market held at Dickey’s store next Saturday afternoon, October 30.
