TEFFT . ( Lone Scout Notes. <. The Lone Scouts, W. E. T., of Tefft held another business meeting' September 14, at 7:00 p. m. It was decided to adjourn 'until spring, but meetings and scout activities will be given at different times during the winter. Dates will be announced later. Officers were elected at the' last meeting. The elections were as follows: Captain, Kenneth Turner; Lieutenant,' Foster W. Fairchild; Holder of the Key, Earl Stalbaum. The White Eagles on the Honor Roll this month are in order of their standing: (1). Harold Fanselow; (2) Lester Lakin- (3) Earl Stalbaum. All the scouts have' increased in credits since last month. Harold FanSelow received a Special Credit for good behavior.
Mrs. George Gore has gone for a few weeks’ visit. We suppose George will soon follow. Wm. Shirer and family werq calling on Dugglebys Sunday evening, just for a change of medicine. Russell Jones, wife and baby are home for a few days and Grandpa Jones is real proud of his grandson. Mrs. Moss and daughter were out from Chicago looking over their tenant and farm and went home well pleased.' ’ Don Peregrine has landed home from Michigan? and expects to start to school this week, but didn’t bring any fish as he promised to. I A hustling young business man from DeMotte called on our prin-| cipal, Miss Harris, and took her for a short but pleasant drive. ’ Come j again Y. Institute was held Saturday. A! private affair. It seems lonesome without Wheatfield or DeMotte. Something new. Watch for the next date. x The Silo fillers aye beginning to hum and the fried chicken win be plentiful these next few days. Come on ‘boys and let’s beat old Jack Frost to it. Mark Mayley, who was riding a motorcycle ana ran into by a car, is improving and we think in a few more days will be able to resume his duties as an engineer around Hammond. „ , Chas. Woodward and family from near Rensselaer were over for a visit Sunday with Andrew Kerr, after attending church. They ate a fine chicken dinner. Charley and his wife are sure enjoying life. We don’t blame them either. Elwood Davis, our-hustling blacksmith, and Jack of all, trades, had the misfortune of someone borrowing $175.00 worth' of tubes and tires one night last week. This is thie second time this place has been robbed. Someone will run into a Frank landed home from the west and sure looks fine after about thirty days’ vacation and is now ready to take Hie stump for Cox. But can’t understand why his son, Warren ,is a Republican, man trap soon. - The school is fine and we would like every patron who has anything to say up nis or her sleeve to see the teachers or the principal. They want to get acquainted with every patron. Things can better be adjusted. We seem to hate a fine faculty and a fine bunch of chil- . dren now come and lets all pull together. There is already 107 enrolled. Let’s boost and make this a banner year. We will, all profit by it in the end.

Mr. and Mrs. Hewett, of Ohio, who have been visiting at the Hewett and Dewey hbmes for the past few days, returned to their home last Saturday. Mrs. Murray Beach and son. Claude, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Matt Brown and son, Gerald, of Valparaiso were callers at the Ferrell home Sunday. It is reported that the Swamp Angels of Baum’s Bridge and the Athletics of north of Wheatfield will, play ball at the Wheatfield baseball park next Sunday at 2:30. Wiliam Hallier is visiting his •brother at Portland, Ore., at this writing. While gone he intends»to spepd a few days on the Pacific coast and other points of interest George Williams of South Bend came here Sunday for a visit with his parents. His wife, who has been -Here visiting for the past week, returned to the city with him. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Biggs and’ family of Potter, Neb., came Saturday for a visit with his father, County Treasurer John T. Biggs, and family, and other Indiana relatives. , , Remember the band concert next Saturday evening. A couple of patriotic songs and other special music will be rendered. This will probably end the band concerts for the season. ' All come. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lindstedt and Mr. Lindstedt’s mother, Mr. and Mrs. Darrow and Miss of Chicago motored from Chicago Sunday for a visit at the Jesperson home in Walker township. The Swamp Angels have only lost one game this season, while the Athletics is an aggregation of live wires. This will be a contest worth seeing. The Victory Club met with Mrs. Will Meyers Wednesday and a fine time was enjoyed by all. The next meeting will be Sept. 22_with Mrs. Clarence Bridgeman. Rural Carrier Matt Boswinkle is. taking his annual two weeks’ vacation and Joe .'Parrish is acting as substitute carrier on Route No. 1. Mrs. Wm. Balling has returned home after spending a week with her mother, Mrs. F. J. Kleinpaste. Mrs. Louis Bovi planted a few potato sprouts last spring to see what success she, would nave and when digging up the plants she got six pounds of good sized potatoes from three sprouts. It pays to experiment.
FAIR OAKS SCHOOL. Our attendance is excellent. The patrons should pay .a visit to the school. Marie Bowsher was out two days With torisilitis. Charles Gundy spent the week end in Chicago. There is an enrollment of 28 in the primary room. teacher hopes to have a high’school chorus organized soon. Elwood Stover was taken to Lafayette this week to have Ms tonsils removed. The enrollment of the intermediate room is now twenty. The attendance of this room has been excellent. ' ; We are «till unable to secure a .atin teacher. However, we how lave the names of two or three possible ones. Alice Stanley, one of our Senior girls, took charge of the Primary room last Monday, in the absence of Mrs. Brouhard. Dr. Olsen, secretary of the Christian Board of Naturalization, and Rev. Sheets, of Remington, spoke to the high school pupils last Tuesday. Dr. Olsen, who is from Washington, D. C., held us spell-bound with his eulogy of America and splendid talk oh Americanization. The first number of a four-num-ber Lyceum course appears ut the school ■ house on the evening of October 18th, which will consist of ap illustrated lecture on pottery. As a special feature the high school will put on some special music. There will also be ice-cream and I sandwiches for sale. Come! ROSELAWN. ~ Wf T.
