DEMOTTE. F. M. Hart received two new Titan tractors this week. Al Rosing of Kankakee, Hl., spent Sunday with Geo. Marrs. Manny Bobele of Gary has resumed his stock buying here again. Mrs. Geo. Petek of Anderson, is visiting old friends here This week. ; Dr. Hewitt made a flying trip Sunday to. Crown Point, Hammond and GMry. . Ernest Coberly has gone to Erie, 111., where he, is principal of the High School. Sam McGinnis and wife, Ellen Tyker and Mrs. Beck motored to Gary Sunday. A carload of pickles in bags is being shipped front} this place daily now to Chicago. ’'Miss Rexroat of Virginia, Hl., is spending the week with her sister, Mrs. H. F. Nauman. The bank here is now open Saturday evenings . for business, which is appreciated very much. „ Mr. and Mrs. Peoples, of Elkhart, are spending the week with her sister, Mrs. W. J. Yeogley. E. W. Overocker of Kankakee, 111., spfent a few days visiting at the home of D. B. Gleason. Jostedt. Mr .and Mrs. Otto Schwanke of San Pierre spent Sunday at Mrs. Schwanke’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Kramer. ■ C. P. Curtin and family atended the Democratic speech by Candidate for Governor McCulloch, of Indiana, and Senator Owen of Okla. .Don’t overlook the Lyceum Course this winter. The school boys and girls are putting this over and it should.x-receive the hearty support of every person in this community. John Buys of Mount Greenwood visited John Fase. He had some thought of buying a place, also a young lady stayed a week and Andrew Nanninga is sorry she left. Mrs. F. M. Hart returned from a visit at the home of her sister,. Mrs. O. H. Eldred of Millbrook, Mich. The ETdredsv moved from Walker township, this county, about fifteen years ago and bought land when it was qheap and have about 200 acres in the vicinity of several good towns and have prospered. Louis Wolf, of Chicago, Hl., a prominent business man on Randolph St., who has been located here this fall .buying produce, died at the Hotel Halleck, of double pneumonia. Dr. Hewitt, our local physician was in attendance constantly and two trained nurses of Chicago- As most people like their family physician, this was no exception! and they had three noted specialists here, one being the great lung and heart specialist who b attended the late Theo. Roosevelt, and they told the relatives of Hie deceased, Mr. Wolf, our local physician had done all that was in the power if man to do, and the blind lung specialist commended Dr. Hewitt in the highest terms in. his work in this tease. Edd Fitzgerald has left for college again. Edd is determined to make good as a chemist. Mrs. Martha Swing is home for a few days, and her brother, Wm. Cullen, was home for the week-end. The Lone Scouts held a business meetipg last Saturday and promised some notes for the paper, but nothing doing yet.' Come on, Scouts. , Mrs. Geo. Heil left for No Man’s Land and said George could just batch a few days, it would do him good, She’ll be back soon George. Mrs. C. E. Snider, wh'o has been doing faithful work on the farm, has departed for DesMoin&, la., to see her* parents. First time in five years. Henry and John Tressmer were around seeing old friends and they sure got the glad hand from everybody. Crops are good on their new farm near Calpo. Mrs. Joseph Ribbands and daughter, Vera, from Streator, has been visiting Mrs. Kerr, but has now departed for Brook to visit George Warrick, a prosperous farmer. Mrs. McCollins landed home and found that her man hadn’t even washed the dishes, so he invited Gfeo. Lawton and wife from Chicago so his wife would get something good to eat. Another 8 days of this kind of weather then the oorn will be mostly safe. Very little wheat to be planted this-Tail. The fly is very bad yet and a good many chinch bugs in the neighborhood. Mrs. ' Gbo. Floers was out of town for a few days last week, but said Buster was doing fine at school only when the teacher Woked daggers at him after Buster calling her Miss Poole, now Mrs. Sands. Our school is running smoothly with a large enrollment, but more to come yet. Ine teachers seem to be wide awake and looking after the small details. It has been said this school had the best laboratory in the county. Going some. Mrs. Larson from Davenport, la., just blew into town to visit her brother, Duggleby, and accompany Mrs. Duggleby home in a short time. Mrs. Larson had to have an excuse to get away from her husband. Our township has lost one of our gpod hustling young farmers. It’s a shame. The railroad gets all the good ones. Warren Fisher, who has proven himself O. K., in going to make good as a fireman on- the N. Y, C. Mr. Frank Fisher ought to be proud of this boy, being the only Republican in the family and a credit to the party. We wish Warren the best of luck.

Tom Spitler and Milton Cobb and Mr. and Mrs. Perrine attended church Monday evening. Joe Henseler, who has resigned his position here on the section, has gone to Hammond to work. A religious party from Sunnyside Chapel of Chicago, 111., are holding tent meetings here for a few days. Born, on Sept. 3rd, a boy to Mr. and Mrs. 'H. T. Adams. Dr. W. W. The grandchildren of Mrs. Kleinpaste, who spent „ their vacation with her, have returned to their home in Chicago to attend - school. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Kleinpaste spent the past week visiting relatives in Chicago, bringing back her daughter; Mrs. Wm. Balling, who will spend a week with her. A big new hotel may be built here. . Miss Ruth Kennedy is reported improving daily in health. Art Bind was a business caller at Kankakee city Ipst Friday. Mrs. Berenice Clark spent last week'visiting in Crown Point. Quitq a- few from here attended the camp meeting at Baum’s bridge. Grover Stembel attended the tractor . demonstration at Rensselaer Tuesday. \ Mrs. Kate Tinkham was a guest of her daughter, Mrs. Sam’l Payne, last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. McDaniels have rented the farm now occupied by Samuel Payne. Ita Jensen was called to Knox Tuesday to nurse Mrs. Chas. Jensen, who is reported quite ill. Andy Misch and his force of tearpenters has about completed the extension work on his barn. x A. C. Nees has bought the Primo Theatre from George Ferguson and will take immediate possession. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Frye and family of Hebron were callers at the A. J. Bush home last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George H. Luse motored to Ft. Wayne, Ind., Tuesday for a visit with -friends and relatives.
Mrs. Warren White and Mrs. Joseph Hilliard attended the Democratic meeting at Rensselaer last Saturday. Maurice Gorman has constructed cement walks in front of his prop'erty and about the residence which looks good, Mrs. H. E. Remley will entertain ,the Pot Luck club on Thursday and will also entertain the Sew Club the following Thursday. As this is the age of co-operation, let the patrons work in conjunction with the teachers for a larger succeed in the school work here. The Wheatfield school began laß Monday.with an able corps of instructors at Hie helm, which foreshadows a very successful term. The ball game between Medaryville and the Regulars here last Sunday resulted victory for the home boys by the score of 9 to 7. Samuel Payne and his son-in-law have rented the farm south of Baum’s bridge, known as the McCoy land. They . will take possession next Spring.
Lon Nees and son have purchased the moving picture business here of George Ferguson, assuming control last Monday. They intend to continue the business in the same up-to-date way. Thomas Hewett and family are entertaining the former’s brother, and wife, who are here on a visiting tour. Mr. and Mrs. Hewett live in Ohio and this is their first visit to this section of the state. The Wheatfield town schools opened the 1920-21 term last Monday with the following corps of instructors: Supt., T. H. Mahan, Miss McMillian, Miss Hammond, Anna Hunsicker, Mrs. C. B. Dillman and Minnie Tinkham. A good attendance was had at the Democratic meeting held here last Monday, considering the short notice given. Judge Elmore Barce of Fowler was the speaker, and his subject was: “The League of Nations,” which he delivered in a very forceful and non-partisan manner. ... -X Quite a number from here went to Rensselaer last Monday evening to hear U. S. Senator Owen of Oklahoma, and Dr. McCulloch, candidate for governor of Indiana. Senator Owen discussed national issues, and of courie the Doctor told the large crowd in attendance whar was wrong with Goodrich and the
state tax board. We received a post card from our friend, F. W. Fisher, last Wednesday, telling of his visit to the xelllowstone Park. He waxes OiMUent in describing the natural beauties of the place, ending up by saying, that no one can imagine, words can not express the ‘ great feeling of awe one has in the presence of object thousands of years old. Barnard Hohner, the seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hohner, had the misfortune wiule playing to have a splinter enter the place where he sits down, in such a manner that Dr. Bucher was called and had to cut the splinter out before it could be removed. The splinter being good size and about two and one-half inches in length, the . operation was very

the position at the Griffith House left vacant by Miss Ethel Harris who recently married. Mr. Arion Griffin and wife and little daughter and Mrs. Simons and daughter of Monticello motored over to spend Sunday at the home of Mr. George 'Griffin. Mr. C. Eck from west of town accompanied his mother to the Wabash Valley Sanitorium. near LaFayette on Tuesday where she will undergo treatments. Mrs. Eck has suffered poor health for some time past. On Saturday the marriage of Miss Sara Zimmerman and Mr. Carroll Leatherman took place at the Christian minister’s home in Rensselaer. They were accompanied on their honeymoon trip by the bride’s brother, Mr. Wallace Zimmertsan and wife of this city. The bride is one of pur most popular young women while the groom is an enterprising young farmer well and favorably known here. The young couple returned here on Monday evening and will take up residence with the parents of the bride where they will be at home to their many friends.
