Polar Ice.
In the region around the south pole. Sir Ernest Shadtieton found various kinds of ice to which he gives interesting names to his new book, "South.” Thus one kind he pictures as “young ice;” another as “light pack;” another as “drift ice.” Heavy hummocked pack and close pack are the roughest to appearance, with ged little crags covering all the surface. - .
