THAYER Frances Cyphers motored to Gary last Thursday. _ Wm. Brockers of East Chicago spent Sunday here with his family. Mr. and Mirs. Thos. Spitler and Mr. and Mra. Lawson Clark motored to Kankakee last Sunday. Mrs. Ernest A. Schillo of Hammond spent the week end here with her mother, Mrs. Henry Cobb. Mra. Henry Cobb and daughters Blanch and Beulah attended the Fair at Kankakee last Thurdsday. Chas. Amstein Jr., and wife of Chicago returned home after a weeks’ visit here with his parents. Mr. and Mra. Wigins and family of Indiana Harbor, visited here Sunday with Mr. and Mra. Adolph Peweratroff. ’lit -X. Mr. and Mra. Bert DeFnee of Shelby, arid Mrs. Wm. Gault and children of Leroy visited Sunday with A. Pewestroff. The joint Sunday School picnic held here last Sunday was a social success. The dinner was one of the greatest attractions of the day. OBITUARY George Austin White, the sixth child of Royal and Mary White, was born at Thayer, Ind., Oct. 24, 1919. After* an* illness of ten days with Oleo Colitus passed away |at Thayer, Ind., Aug. 17, 1920, at the age of nine months and twenty three days. , . He leaves to mourn their loss a father, mother, three sisters and one brother. The funeral was largely attended by the friends and neighbora in Thayer and also by Mrs. White s folks who came from Crown Point, Merrillville, Gary, Hammond and Chicago. . , x. The remains with many beautiful flowers were taken to Roselawn for burial.

SHELBY Mrs. Chas. Barker, of Fair Oaks, visited her sister, Mrs. O. A. Bruhard. A . Mrs. Albert Larson spent a few days of' this week with relatives in North Judson. John Hall returned Tuesday from Florida, where he has been for three weeks. Miss Jean Bowie of Wheatfield returned home’ last Saturday from a two weeks’ visit here with her aunt Anna Fuller. ern Indiana, where they expect to stay for about two weeks. ’ Mr. and Mra. Halar Holema of Thornton, Ind., are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Jameri Jones, and other relatives of this place. Quite a number from here attended the Kankakee Fasr last 1 week and a number are attending the Crown Point races this week. Mrs. James Black and son and Miss Adelia Fuller returned last Friday evening from a two weeks’ । visit at the home of Mis. Henry Parsons and family in New Havana, Conn., they report a very interesting trip.

WHEATFIELD All is well on the Kankakee. Wonder what girl is attracting the eye of B. B. Miss Gertie Misch visited her sister at Newland last week. Jesse Sommers was a caller at Indiana Harbor last Friday. Mr. and Mra. Dee Dunn visited home folks here over Sunday. Mr. Andrew Misch and family visited friends at Renseslaer last Sunday. Do any of the Wheatfield boys wear corsets? We have been thus informed. - XMrs. Henry Ferrel attended the fair at Valpo, returning home last Saturday. Thomas Hewett and your correspondent were callers at the Frost home last Sunday. Mr. Heidenblut, our genial shoe maker, has been on the sick list for the past few days. Jean Bowie returned Saturday from a two weeks’ visit with relatives at Shelby and Lowell. The latest style is to .go to sleep when you go to a party. You had better carry an alarm clock boys. The threshing work is rapidly coming to a close. Two machines will finish up their runs this week. Two elders of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints held services at the Primo last Friday evening. * , Rev. C. E. Downey of Fair Oaks was a visitor here Saturday and attended the home coming at Tefft Sunday. The Morocco ball team made their first visit here last Sunday and the Regulars were winners by the score of 19 to 5.

We have two young men in these parts, who pay their taxes at the county seat every week. Some tax payers, you bet. Remember the band concert next Saturday evening. Come out and spend the evening with the large crowd that attends. The Wheatfield high and grade schools will begin Sept. 13. They hope by that time to have a complete corp of teachers. Postmaster Knapp returned from a vacation tour in Michigan looking fine. He refused to be interviewed on the* fish question. One of our town ladies has discovered that lime is an excellent substitute for washing powder. Ask her about it before you try it. Gilbert Stembel, who is located at Fort Sheridan in the Medical Corp of the U. S. Army visited his home folks here over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. William Harrod went Monday to Colorado Springs, Colo., on an extended visit at the home of their son, Burlie and family. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Jensen moved their household goods to Knox this week. Charlie is employed as Pharmacist in the Starke county seat. ' Fred Prust and family and Henry Dahucke and family of Chicago motored here last Saturday evening and visited Sunday with Mra. Mina Dahucke. , Mra. Carl Gruder and two children of Chicago returned home Sunday from a visit here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tymon Mitchell. , . Wonder why C. P. almost run the wheels off of his auto, in his rush for home last Saturday. Lou wanted to stay over but C. P. said no, with a big voice. Quite a few of our young people went on a fishing and pleasure trip last Saturday- We hope that the God of chance gave them plenty of big fish. Yes, we like fish, too. The doctor and family are returning from an extensive trip this summer. The Wheatfield band is anxious to add a few more players to its organization.
