Evening Republican, Volume 23, Number 168, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 14 July 1920 — Taught Chinese Lacemaking. [ARTICLE]

Taught Chinese Lacemaking.

The art of lacemaking was first taught to the Chinese of the Chefoo district by foreign missionaries about twenty-five years ago. They believed that by teaching lacemaking the women and girls would find profitable employment within their own homes, and the subsequent spread of the industry has fully justified their efforts. Although first taught in Chefoo, Chi Hsia Hsien was the first district 1® which Jace was extensively made.
