PRECEDENT ESTABLISHED BY LOCAL BOY AT I. U.
Charles Halleck, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Halleck of this city, was honored this week at Indiana University by being elevated to a captaincy in the college military organization, thereby establishing a record in the college" military circles, it, being the/first time since tihe military drill -became a part of the university TSo'Jk that a sophoiriore had over been so honored. In previous years underclassmen l»ad neve? been given a rank above that of a lieutenant and Captain Halleck naturally feels very proud of the honor bestowed upon him. The recognition given the Rensselaer boy was the result of the unusual ability he has shown along military lines. - Captain Halleck is not a fraternity man and was without political pull, which makes his success even the more remarkable. Another honor that recently came to Mr. Halleck was that of being selected secretary of the Booster’s club, the most powerful organization at the university, and the leader in all school activities. -It would seem that Mr. Halleck is making good with a vengeance and the news of his success will be very gratifying to his many Rensselaer friends.
