TEACH FINANCE AND COMMERCE IN NEW SCHOOL
Indiana University Trustees Establish Courses to Aid Business and Industry. FILLS MUCH NEEDED WANT Important Future For Institution Looms on Eve of Revival of Mercantile Activities. Trustees of Indiana University at a recent siession authorized the establishment of a School of Finance and Commerce with classes both in Indianapolis and at the university. It is expected that courses will be open next fall. At Indianapolp the old Indiana Medical College is to be used for the school. John J. Pettijohn, director of the university’s extension work at In- • dianapolis, is in charge of the IndianJ apolis school and Prof. William A. 1 Rawles will direct the course at the 1 university. Part-time work will be ‘ available at the Indianapolis , school, t Business men and manufacturers in 1 Indiana are highly pleased at the j trustees’ action in establishing the new school, as they feel it will fill the I needs for instruction in business and ' administrative lines. Six Main Subjects. Proposed courses for the new school include General Business subjects, Accounting, Commercial and Civic Secretarial course, Insurance, Marketing and Advartis-ng. Among the ‘ üb’ects will be business law, economics, finance, retail marketing, English, community and social surveys and similar subjects. Faculty for the new school will consist of fifteen instructors, many of them from the staff of professors at the university. The courses offered students will cover thoroughly fundamental business and financial principles aad practices. The courses are thorough. Indiana is the sixth university in the middle west to establish commercial and financial courses. Business and industry needs trained men and these courses will fill a long wanted need. ’
