Shantung appears not only in peace treaties, but in peanuts It ls the big* gest peanut raising district In China. It Is estimated that It raises about 500,000,000 pounds of peanuts every year and that It- exports about 200,000,000 pounds of shelled end unshelled nuts. Before the war some 00 per cent st the total export went to Europa In 1918 the total exportations from China of peanut oil were 40,000 tons, worth $8,000,000. One-half of thia was sent to America. The domestic consumption by China of peanuts and oil is enormous. In north and south China the people use peanuts for food and for cooking purposes.
