DUNLAP ENTERS JUDGE RACE
HAS FILED NOTICE OF CANDIDACY WITH SECRETARY OF STATE. Notice was issued today, Wednesday, in a statement by Hon. Ed. Jackson, Secretary of State, that Attorney John A. Dunlap had filed his declaration as a candidate for Judge of the Thirtieth Judicial Circuit on the Republican ticket, thereby placing his nhme on the official ballot for the primary election to be held on May 4, 1920. John A. Dunlap was born- August 1, 1878, in Newton County, Indiana, on a farm, then owned by ■his father, which is the present site of Julian. He was seven years of age when his father died and his mother with five children moved to Mt. Ayr, Indiana, where they resided for seven years, after which they moved to a farm two miles north of Brook. Mr. Dunlap received his common school and high school education at Morocco, Indiana, after which he spent one year at the Normal School at Valparaiso, Indiana. His early legal training was acquired by the study of law in a law office. In 1899 heformed connections with a law office at Warsaw, Indiana, in order that he might be provided with necessary experience in the practice. On May 1, 1900, he opened a law office at Syracuse, Kasciusko county, Indiana. He was immediately appointed Deputy-Prosecut-ing Attorney for the Fifty-Fourth Judicial Circuit, which office he held for a period of two years. After being actively engaged in the practice of law in Kosciusko county for five years he moved to independence, Kansas, a city of about twelve thousand population, where he resided for one year. Mr. Dunlap realized the importance and the value of a broad business experience which is necessary to the successful practice of law, and in 1907 he moved to Los Angeles, California. He was admitted to the bar in that State on August 31, 1908, and engaged in pr*®™® in that city, with offices at 330 South Hill street. During his residence there he gained wide experience and knowledge of business and financial affairs, and. a varied experience of the practice of law. In 1909 Mir. Dunlap opened an office for the practice of law in Rensselaer, Indiana, and was admitted to practice in The Thirtieth Judicial Circuit in that year. At the end of that year a.partnership> wm formed with Mr. Wiliam H. Park inson for the general practice, with whom he was associated for a period of one year, after which Hhe succeeded Frank Foltz, who at that time retired-from the practice. Since that date Mr. been actively engaged in the general practice of law in the «ity .of Rensselaer and has participated in many of the important cases which have been tried in this Circuit. Mr. Dunlap has always been a Republican and has always taken an intense interest in the affairs of the party, althomffh he has never before made an active campaign for any political office. ;
