Anyone seen a robin yet? Ivan Coppess, Mr, and Mrs. Lewis Wacknitz of Gillam township, were in Rensselaer today. Mrs. Wacknitz went to Chicago from here. Howard Mills, assistant secretarytreasurer of the Trust and Savings bank has been confined to his home on account of sickness. He ft much better today and hopes to be at ‘the bank Friday.— —- ‘"" ' A hearing for the Jasper county telephone company to increase its rates will be held Wednesday, March 10 at ten a. m. at the rooms of the public service commission in Indianapolis. • Seventy-two companies in Indiana have already been voted increases. Today, February 26, seems to have been a popular one with the farmers of the county for the holding of public sales. The John R. Lewis, John G. Culp, Yeoman and Schroer and Bobile and Hanaway sales are being held today. The sale of Silas Toombs wil be held Friday. The season is rapidly drawing to a close and except for a few scattered dates in March the auctioneers have finished their work and the farmer will turn his thoughts to the spring work.
In an exciting game of basket ball the Purdue university five defeated Indiana university 31 to 20 at Memorial gymnasium Wednesday night. It was the tenth straight victory for ’the Purdue squad wnicn is now firmly intrenched in second place in the conference standing with an outside chance of winning the title should Chicago, the leader, slip up before Wisconsin and Illinois, two strong teams. The Purdue quintette is undoubtedly the best ■ team in the conference but two early season reverses cut down their percentage.
