NEWLAND.
No, girls, the Newland items are still on the job. One of the Jasper Co. Farms Company’s houses caught fire Thursday about noon, but very little damage was done. Lots' of sickness around here. Some of the sick are Mrs. J. Willbanks, Mrs. Jesse Ellis and baby, Miss Royal Rutledge, Miss Fairy Elliott, Miss Gladys Elliott, Mrs. Herman Kneexer, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kimberlan, little Raymond Cavendish, Mrs. Arthur Cavendish and almost all of the Rodway family, and Carl Hanley. AH of the above seem somewhat better at the present writing. Mrs. Lee Hamilton and baby were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon. They were reported a little better this Friday morning. Mr. Chester Flesher has been confined to the house for several days with an attack of the grippe. The Hess family also have the grippe. Suppose we will have six weeks more of winter weather, as Mr. Ground Hog saw his shadow all right. Mr. Arthur Cavendish returned home from Ohio Wednesday. Our Red Cross nurse certainly has her hands full at present. Still there are some who doubt the Red Cross. . Gifford, Newland and Kennedy schools are closed on account of the flu. The dances at Newland are stopped for the present. Word was received here today that Mr. Charles Hulsey formerly of Newland, but who went back to Indianapolis to spend the winter, died last night with pneumonia, following an attack of the flu. The many friends around here were surprised to hear of his death as the last letter received from them reported him as much better. Mrs. Hulsey is in a critical condition at present.
