WHITE COUNTY OPPOSES MERGER OF SCHOOLS
Rarely has a political election caused more excitement than did the special school election held in Monticello and Union township Wednesday when the question of the consolidation of the schools of the city of Monticello and Union township was decided. The proposition carried in the city, the vote being 221 to 128, but was lost by the rural vote 158 to 55. Those opposed to the plan worked .vigorously against it and were .busy about the polls throughout the entire day. In order that consolidation may be had it is necessary to have a majority in both units. The city school board will begin immediate plans for the erection of a gymnasium on ' the high school building.—Monticello Journal.
