INDEPENDENT TEAM OPENS SEASON THIS EVENING.
Hugh Kirk mit his basket ball candidates through a stiff scrimage last night at the armory in his first action towards reviving athletic teams in Rensselaer. It is hoped he can once more arouse enough enthusiasm to support baseball and foot ball teams and put the old time kick where she in athletic contests. ' All receipts will be accounted for and it is planned to swell the fund in every possible way (barring begging) until it is possible to have a public gymnasium and community building complete with aeroplane •hangar, swimming pool, etc., etc. A good many men will be used in the opening game at Brook tonight, due to their lack of condition. Putts and Wartena will be used at •center; Clark, Collins, Parks and ’Kirk will take turns at fdrward, and ‘Nowels, BabcOck, Phegley and Ross will do what they can to stop - ‘Brook’s well organized attack. 1 It is probable that Worth McCarthy and several others will also 'be on hand to enable Rensselaer to make a creditable showing. Brook will be*at the armory Friday night. •If there is any sporting blood left ♦in town, come out and get the bunch '•off on a successful season. * i i ■— i '' Mrs. John Simonin Gerald went to Chicago this morning.
