KEEPING INSANE IN JAILS IS DEPLORED.

The practice in Indiana of keeping or detaining insane persend in county jails is a “reproach to the state,” and “it is a condition of which our citizens should know, a deplorable thing to which thegsehould be aroused,” according to a report being prepared in the office of the board of state charities. Investigations by the board showed that at the close of the state fiscal year, September 30, thirty-one insane men and seventeen insane women were confined in the county jaild in the state. * One thousand and fifty-five insane persons were in jail at some time or other within the year. The state board says the condition is due to lack of facilities in the state or county insane hospitals. Mrs. Cope J. Hanley went to -Lafayette Friday afternoon.
