OIL KING ENTERS PROTEST ON TAX.

New York, Dec. 11.—John D. Rockefeller, Sr., has protested against his New York tax assessment of $5,000,000, it was learned today. This is the second time Mr.,. Rockefeller has objected to paying ‘ his personal assessment. Under the ; administration of Mayor Mitchell, 1 Mr. Rockefeller’s personal assessment was arised ito $10,000,000. At I that time he swore that his assess- i able holdings in the city did not' exceed $2,000,000, - but agreed to j pay an assessment of $5,000,000. The Rockefeller attorneys in- ' formed the tax board that Mr. ‘ Rocvefeller no longer cares to make j make a gift to the city of taxes on $3,000,000 of property which he does not possess.
