Hill, of the London Polytechnic Harriers, the half-mile and one-mile champion who, in the recent sports of the Celtic Football club at Glasgow, finished second in the one-mile race, covering the distance in 4 minutes 16 4-5 Seconds. He was scratch man. The performance beat Fred Bacon’s Scottish record of 4 minutes 18 1-5 seconds made at Powderhall In 1894 and equals the British mark for the distance by amateurs.
