MINERS LOWER PAY DEMANDS.

Washington, Nov. 21.—Bituminous coal miners today abandoned their demands for a thirty-hour week and a 60 per cent increase. In a counter proposal to the operators they offered to accept a 40 per cent increase and a seven-hour day. It was said that a decision probably would not be made before tomorrow. The operators have not indicated any willingness to amend their offer of 16 cents a ton and 20 per cent increase for day wage labor with the working hours as at present. Perhaps they had better stop asking Uncle Sam to be mandatory for nations abroad until he has successfully* undated a jK right hfere at home.— Philadelphia .. Press.
