BEDFORD IS SCENE OF A . TERRIBLE CRIME. i I Mrs. John Blair, 17jyears old, was. murdered and her six-months-old baby died in a fire started inthe Blair home by the murderer to conceal his crime, according to a verdict of Coroner E. E. Mitchell on Thursday afternoon. The charred I bodies of Mrs. Blair and the infant were found by neighbors who discovered the Blair home, six miles north of Bedford, in flames early Thursday morning. Persons who first reached the house after the fire was discovered could see the body of the woman ■ lying on the bed and efforts to extinguish the fire with water were confined to this part of the structure. A five-gallon oil can and a hatchet were found near the bed and an examination revealed the fact that there was a deep gash in the head of the dead woman. The child’s body was unmarked except for the burns. John Blair, husband of the dead woman, was seen about 9 o’clock Wednesday night, according to witnesses at the inquest.
