He graduated from the lowa State university in 1885 and from the Union College of Law at Chicago two years later. He began the practice of law in Chicago in the same year and practiced here until 1906. He was a delegate to the republican national conventions of 1900 and 1904, and was a member of the republican national committee from 1904 bo 1912. He was elected to congress in 1906 for the unexpired term of R. H. Hitt, deceased, and was re-elected to the sixtieth and sixty-first congresses. H®fef of Illinois.
