NOT MANY ATTEND THE NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT.
So far as we have been able to ascertain but one veteran from Jasper county attended the national encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic last week at Columbus, O. Comrade J. F. Mitchell and his wife, who were at the meeting of the veterans of 1861, report a most excellent meeting with 50 per cent more of the boys in blue than had been expected. In the line of anarch on Wednesday were more than 10,000 of the brave soldiers of the war of the rebellionr-^Tt—was estimated that there were more than 200,000 onlookers. Contrary to reports that this ; would be the last encampment, the *1920 meeting will be held at Atlantic City and evenalargernumber of the veterans are expected to attend. ; ,
While Comrade Mitchell seems to county, we had another representative in the person of Comrade John Greenfield, formerly of this city but now making his home in Los Angeles, California. Mr. and Mrs. Greenfield are here now for a visit with relatives and old friends. Mr. Greenfield came to this county some sixty-eight years ago when a lad of ten. He was born in Ohio. He entered the union army during the civil war with the late Mark Hemphill, D. H. Yeoman and other comrades here. Ten years ago he went west. While 78 years of age he and his good wife are enjoying quite good health.
