Machine Shapes Masts.
A machine has been built which will shape masts up to 100 feet in length and three feet in diameter. The timber is set up in the ndachlne "and revolved at a speed of ยง0 revolutions a minute, and it is shaped by a cutter hCad which is electrically driven at the rate of 700 revolutions a minute. This cutter head is mounted on a carriage, which is moved along the timber against a rail set to give the proper profile to the mast. Heretofore this work has bee.n done by hand and required skilled workmen. At best It' has been a slow and laborious task.
