OBNINANCE HO. 196.

An Ordinance licensing Hawkers and Peddler* and Fixing a Penalty for the Violation Thereof. Secti<& 1. Be it ordained by the common council of the city of Rensse-. laer, Indiana, that it shall be unlawful for any person to engage in hawking Or peddling ~within said city without Obtaining a license therefor, and otherwise complying with the provisions of this ordinance. Section 2. The license fee required of every person desiring to engage in hawking within said city shall be as follows: ‘— For one day, ten dollars. - For two days, seventeen and 50-100 dollars. _JEor one week, forty —, For two weeks. seventy-nve dortars. For one month, one hundred dollars. Section 3. The license fee herein required shall be paid to the city treasurer by the applicant for a license and the treasurer shall issue a receipt therefor. The city clerk, upon—presentment to him of said receipt, shall make out and deliver to the applicant a license to engage in hawking or peddling for the period paid for. Said license shall be signed by the mayor and attested by the said clerk, sealed with the seal of said city, and shall be numbered and registered by the clerk in a book kept for the purpose of registering licenses. Section 4. Any person engaged in hawking or peddling within said city shall exhibit his license so to do, to •the mayor or city marshal of said city whenever called upon by either of them so to do. — .Section 5. Any license issued under the provisions of this ordinance hhall authorize hawking or peddling only by the person to whom it is issued, and not by his partner, assistant or agent, or by any other person; provided, however, that any license issued under the provisions of this ordinance shall not authorize the holder thereof to hawk any goods, wares or merchandise on Washington street, nor on Van Rensselaer street from Harrison street to Cornelia street. — Section 6. Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall, on conviction thereof, be fined in any sum not exceeding fifty (SSO) dollars, and pay the costs of prosecution, and each day’s continuance of hawking or peddling’ without a license shall be a separate offense. iSectlon 7. All ordinances or parts of ordinances relating to hawkers’ or peddlers’ licenses are hereby repealed. Section 8. This ordinance Shall be enforced from its passage and publication for two consecutive weeks in the Rensselaer Daily Republican, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the city of Rensselaer, Indiana, the first of which, publication shall be on the ninth day of September, 1919, and the last publication the sixteenth day of September, 1919.
