There has been some talk in Indianapolis that the Fairbanks will case, which the daughter of the late vice-president has sued to break, may be compromised. The defendants, who are the sons of the testator, deny that any settlement by compromise is pending. The estate included a three-fourths interest in the Indianapolis News, valued at $1,500,000, and much other property, including $4,000,000 worth of land in Illinois and Ohio. The»inheritance tax from the land went to the states where the land was situated. A new angle to the amount of tax to be paid in Indiana ,was introduced when the News stock was listed, the tax having been based upon the original estate, which did not include the News property. If the contest of the daughter results in the breaking of the will the inheritance tax will amount to $58,000, but if is not .broken the amount will be greater. If it should all go to one heir the amount would be $200,000. Mrs. Timmons, the daughter, was not given a child’s share by the will but Was provided air annuity of $15,000.
