CELEBRATE 57TH ANNIVERSARY
OF MARRIAGE TODAY-PROUD MOMENT IN LIFE OF MR. AND MRS. HOLLISTER. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hollister quietly celebrated the 57th anniversary of their marriage today, September 5, at their home on South Weston street. It is a proud moment in the lives of the venerable couple and they are probably entitled to the honor of having been married longer than aby other couple —in —the —city. -Today —also' marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the birth of Mrs. Hollister. Mr. and Mrs. Hollister were married September 5, 1862, in Bedford, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, where they resided until the year 1882, when they came to this city to make their residence. Since that time, flirtyseven years ago, they have continued to make Rensselaer their home. Following their removal to this city Mr. Hollister was employed for six months in the poultry house of Jo- | seph Sharpe, now deceased, which occupied the old frame building that stands at the corner of Washington and Front streets. The years which followed found Mr. Hollister employed at the mill, the elevators and the city light plant, and he continued active business life until a few years ago. ; Mr. Hollister recalls that it was he who helped to erect the mill which still stands on Front street. It was he who laid the foundation, set the engine and did the piping, following the burning of the old mill. It was with something akin Ito pride that the venerable citizen announced that he was the first one to turn on the steam of-the ehgine which served the mill faithfully for a period of thirty-six years; and also the last one to turn it off when Ralph Sprague, the present owner of the mill, installed a motor in its stead about three weeks ago. Mr. Hollister will be eighty-one years of age* December 2, having been born in Ohio*in the year 1838. His wife was born in Richfield, 0., in the year 1844. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hollister are the last surviving members of their families. They are the parents of two living children, Mrs. Ray Wood, of this city, and J. Spencer Hollister, of Montana. Mr. Hollister is also a first cousin of the late Admiral Dewey. During their long residence in Rensselaer the aged couple have gained the respect and love of the entire’ ecommunity by their kindly ways and splendid qualities of citizenship. The Republican joins their hundreds of friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more anniversaries of the kind they are celebrating today.
