Charles Johnson, son of Thomas Johnson,.. of Fair Oaks, who has been in the United States army for the past seven years, is home on a furlough. Mr. Johnson served with Gen. Pershing in Mexico and also saw much service in France during the late war. He will leave soon to join his regiment at San Antonio, Texas.
Charles - Woods returned to Fair Oaks from Lisbon, No. Dak., Sunday and will spend the winter there. Mr. Woods has been located in Dakota for the past several years, being engaged in farming there. He reports that crops there are extremely poor this year, especially the small grains. Wheat is averaging but from two to five 'bushels per acre. His brother, Ross, formerly a member of Co. M, has re-enlisted in the army and will leave for China soon. Dr. J. Hansson went to Chicago this morning. .-——Z r isaacLucus returned to Chicago today. Barn ey Koi hoff re turned from South Bendrtoday. Helem Worland returned Tuesday evening from a visit with friends at LaPorte and South Bend. Clara Stacey, who had been visiting at the Monnett school, returned today to her home in Cincinnati, O. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Taylor and son and Mrs. John Sheetz, of Remington, went to Chicago today. Van Grant, William Grant and John Kresler, Jr., went to Chicago this forenoon.
John Nowels joined his wife at Kouts today in a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Joseph Luers, and family. I Mr. and Mrs. F. X. Busha and (daughter, Catherine, of Lafayette, were guests here today of Mrs. Busha’s father, W. H. Beam. Mrs. John Randle returned here today. She had visited with her daughter, Mirs. Bert Josserand, It Reynolds, for the past month. " Gl en if Frances returned today to his home in Danville, Hl., after a visit with his uncle, Frank est, and family. - C. C. Shue,of Mt. Ayr, went to Lebanon where he will attend a reunion of the 86th Indiana. Comrade Shue is over eighty years of age, but gets about as easily as many twenty years younger. -He is the only man Tivihg in Newton county who was a member of the 86th.
