Agriculture Is the Chief Occupation of Finlanders
T . In spite of its northerly position and Its poor soiL agriculture Is still the chief occupation of Finland, even though the cultivated area only 8.5 per cent of the land. The co-op-erative movement, the introduction and uset of modern irgicultural machinery and improved methods of cultivation have greatly helped in the development, but there is ample opportunity for further development. Cattle raising and dairying also have grown considerably during the last decades. The lumber industry ranks second in importance, with about 61 per cent of the area of the country forest lands.
