Serbia's Ruined Libraries.

A leaflet issued by the entente committee of the Royal Society of Literature, in London, describes the wanton destruction and pillage of Serbian libraries during the war, and appeals for aid in the task of restoring these institutions. The library of Belgrade university, the leading collection of books relating to the Balkans in the whole world and also the most important library in Serbia, was systematically pillaged and destroyed; the large library at the monastery of Dechani, dating from the fourteenth centnry snd rich in historical documents, underwent a sfnTrlarf ate; and many others fared likewise.* Every printing press in Serbia was carried away or destroyed by the enemy.—Scientific American.
