HAD MENTAL LAPSE; WAS ARRESTED; TURNED LOOSE.
A young man, wearing a soldier s uniform and accompanied by a girl companion, was in Rensselaer today ioEciting subscriptions for a wellknown magazine. They appeared at the home of Homer Hendrickson on South Van Rensselaer street and Mrs. Hendrickson subscribed to the magazine, giving a five dollar bill in payment. The young man did not bftve any change and left with the promise to ‘bring back the change, •which amounted to four dollars and a quarter. When he failed to put in an appearance after a considerable length of time, Mrs. Hendrickson telephoned her husband, who secured an officer and had the soldier placed under arrest at the Monon station. * When thus confronted, he stated that he had forgotten the change and put up a pitiful tale, his nervousness belying his statements. The money was returned and Mr. Hendrickson decided not to prosecute, and the couple lost no rime in getting out of the city.
