ESSEX LEADERSHIP PROVED BY ACHIEVEMENT RECORD.
Establishing new automobile standards of economy, endurance and performance, the Essex has captured more worth while records than have ever 'been won by any other stock car except the Hudson in such a short period of time. The following are but a few of its achievements : An average of 23 miles to the gallon of gasoline in an official 115mile test in San Francisco, Accelerated from standing start to 20 miles an hour in 2 5-6 seconds; to 30 miles in 6 2-3 seconds; to 40 miles in 8 5-6 seconds; and to 66 miles in 34 seconds with top and windshield up in tests made in Milwaukee and Los Angeles. Broke all records in competition against much larger cars in 110-mile race over mountainous course between Sacramento, Calf., and Lake Tahoe, covering the distance in 3 hours and 3 minutes, or 19 minutes faster than the best previous record which was made two years ago by a Hudson, (Won first place in the light car class and second place against the entire field in famous “Rim-of-the-World” contest at San Bemardina, climbing eight miles to an elevation iof nearly 5,000 feet an 19 minutes and 4 seconds. The only car to make better time was one costing nearly twice as much and having a motor more than twice as large as the Essex. Broke all records in race around the Island of Oahu in Hawaii, making the dangerous, 85-mile course in 2 hours and 42 minutes, or 16 minutes better than the previous record. Also climbed (Pele Hill in Honolulu in high gear, a feat never performed by any other car except a SuperSix. First of twelve contestants •to finish in the 1919 endurance run from Stockton, Cal., to the Yosenute, making a perfect score and completing the trip within fifteen seconds of its schedule time. Made Fillmore Hill in high gear, declared to be the greatest feat ever performed in San Francisco by any car, no other automobile ever having officially surmounted this hill in high gear. [ Conquered Baxter Street hill in i Los Angeles in 19 2-5 seconds, the j best previous record being made by 'a Hudson in 1917 which surmounted the hill in 21 2-5 seconds. HUGH KIRK, Local Agent.
