LOCAL VETERANS MAY GET FARMS FROM THE NATION.

Local men who served in the' army or navy during the war will receive in a. few days from the department of the interior, post cards advising them of the plans of con-: gress to establish co-operative farm settlements in thinly settled parts of the country. Favorable action by congress is expected at the coming session on the soldiers* settlement legislation. If the bill now pending is passed it will enable the department of the interior to begin rehabilitation projects in nearly every state. Secretary Franklin K. Lane, head of the department, plans to hire veterans who are physically able to work and to pay them to assist in reclaiming the land which they will occupy. Each community settlement will consist of not less than 100 farm houses, surrounding a small town.
