Lloyd* Asher underwent an operation at the hospital today. Joseph Salrin, of Walker township, was in Rensselaer today. Joseph Paxton, of South Beqd, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Parkinson, of North Van Rensselaer street. Editor Charles M. Davis, of the Kentland Enterprise, a Mrs. Davis, their daughter and son-in-law, passed through here today enroute to South Bend. They were making the trip by automobile. Four boys were taken into custody by Sheriff Woodworth Friday and one of them, Kenneth Elder, was lodged in jail for a few hours, following complaint mad§ by merchants. The boys have been engaged in the practice of stealing ice cream and .other delicacies for the past several months from store owners, according to their statements. One restaurant in particular has been a victim of their petty thieving. While the amount of ice cream taken from this place has not been large, it has had several tubs spoiled by the boys, who failed to replace the cover over the cream, permitting salt to get into it. After being given a lecture by the sheriff the boys were permitted to go free upon their promise to be home in the evenings by 9 o’clock and to go to work. It is said by the boys who were caught that there were others who engaged in the practice with them and it is probable that the remainder will be rounded up and given a similar experience. 1 As a result of a dispute over the building of a driveway from the Dr. Catt residence to the street, E. J. Duvall was placed under arrest Thursday evening following a warrant sworn out by Ben Smith, charging him with trespass. In making the approach from the street on the north side, next to a vacant lot owned by Mr. Duvall, the curve was turned north from the line between the Duvall and Catt lots, making the driveway near the curb on a line with the property lines. Mr. Duvall objected and it is said after the forms were laid and the cement poured in Mr. Duvall kicked the same out and tore out the forms. Mr. Smith went to the mayor with his troubles and* filed an affidavit against Mr. Duvall on the latter’s advice. The street committee was called to the scene and words were exchanged. Mr. Duvall asserts that he controls the street in front of his lot, while the city officiate maintain that Mr. Duvall has nothing to do with the ground in front of his curb and was, therefore, a trespasser. The case has been continued until next Thursday.
