CLAD IN B. V. D.’s, HE TRAVELS MANY MILES.
Footsoje, hungry and without clothing, John Musgrove, who escaped from the Indiana reformat tory at Jeffersonville last Saturday afternoon, was taken into custody by Sheriff Ben Price, Jr., of White county, Tuesday evening and will be returned to that institution today. When questioned by the authorities, ■ Musgrove said that he had escaped from the reformatory while at work at the prison farm and while the guards were/not watching. He concealed himself in a wheat field until the officers about the prison gave up the search for him. He removed his prison garb and began his long journey home, attired only in his underwear, which was torn into shreds when he reached his home at Reynolds. He rode a freight train from Jeffersonville to Indianapolis, riding directly behind the engine. He told Sheriff Price that when he came through Indianapolis he was clad only in ragged underwear. After he left the train he made his way to Reynolds through fields of wheat and rye, underbrush and forests, and when asked how he obtained sustenance on the trip, said that when he saw farmers working in the fields, he asked them to go to the house and get him something to, eat, telling them where he was from and where he was going. He said the reason that he ran away was because he was homesick and .wanted to see his parents. Mjusgrove was taken to the prison last spring, following his being convicted. of stealing a horse and selling it.
