Taxes Drive Out Estates.

There are, or were before the war, nearly 1,000 great country estates scattered over Greet Britain, many of wMch have now beeĀ®, closed because of the huge taxation. Of these sixty may be classed as private palaces, for each required a staff of from 200 to 600 servants and attendants. Outside of the household servants there were many men employed as caretakers for -the grounds, gardens, parks, coverts, outbuildings and stables. Rocky Mountain News.
