Fewer Accidents Now, and Why.
War conditions, by fringing large numbers of new and unskilled-'work-ers into industry,* had in ! general the effect of increasing constderaDty the number of industrial accidents, both actually and relatively *to thb number of persons engaged in certain- industries.- Infohttation recently received by the inspection and--investigation service,- department of labor, indicates, however, than in general the number of such accidents has now returned to approximately normal figures. In a comparatively short time before the entrance of America into the war, the effect of workmen’s compensation laws and safety work had reduced the number of imfhrtrthl accidents almost 50 per cent. The-temporwy increase due to the influx*T>f"war'-w<Trkers has now vanished.—Scientific American.
