Man of High Ideals
Charles Fqss. bee man of Alpine, Cal., sold his season’s output of honey, four tons, at 6 cents a pound when the market price was 22 cents, because he felt that profiteering at the expense of the poor, especially in war time, was wrong. “God gave us the bee.” he said, according to the San Diego Union. “an|l he charges us no tax on it. He gave us the flowers from which the bee draws its honey and they cost us nothing. Why. when the world is steeped tn suffering and misery, should any man profiteer on the poor* “Some day 1 hope to look into the face of God who gave us the bee and the flowers, but I could never look him squarely in the eye if I had madea single penny out of a fellow creature’s stress.”
