LARGEST WHEAT EXPORT STATION IN THE WORLD

Dear Mr. Hamilton:— Since I arrived at Buhl we have had weather that equals Indiana May weather. We both Eke it here very much, and I think Buhl did its share in 1918 towards exporting wheat. Here (see below) is a clipping taken from the Buhl Herald, if you wish to print it. I would be glad for the Jasper county people to what a wheat producing country this irrigated land ia— 7 Yours respectfully, s LESLIE £OLLARD. “According to the report of the head nf the IT S grain corporation for Idaho, Buhl shipped more wheat for her 1918 crop than any other station in Idaho. American Falls has been advertising all over the United States as the largest wheat shipping point in the world, but according to the report, Buhl has taken the from American Falls with her 1918 crop, and by a safe margin. According to the most reliable figures, one million bushels of wheat totalling $2,000,000 was shipped from Buhl for the 1918 crop. Many carloads of wheat that would have been wlitihin the Buhl territory were shipped from Peavy and from Cedar station. The 1918 wheat crop in the Buhl country was about one-third larger than the 1917 crop. . This is mainly due to the increased acreage. The yield was considered to be about the same as the year before. Some fields produced as high as 65 bushels to the acre, and many of them went 50 bushels, but an average of 40 to 45 bushels is thought to be about right on most of the fields. It has always been known that Buhl is a large wheat exporting station, but it was never thought before it was the greatest exporting point in the state. These figtires are not guesses, but the" actual figures of the government. They are in a position to’ know the exact facts. If American Falls claims of being the largest wheat shipping point - in the world was ever true, B»hl may now be said to be the largest wheat export station in the world. According to the best information that can be obtained, the wheat acreage here will be larger next year than this year.”
