OBITUARY.
W. Verne Smith, son of Will and Clara Smith, was born in Newton county, Indiana, Jan. 13, 1901, and died of influenza Jan. 20, 1919, his age being 18 years and seven days. He moved with his parents to White county when he was one year old, and a few years later to Jasper county, where he lived at the time of his death. Verne was a graduate of the common schools and a member of the Young Men’s Sunday School class at Lee. He was held in very high esteem by his associates, and was loved iby all his teachers and classmates. - - Verne was the youngest of the family and leaves a vacancy in the home and especially in the mother’s heart, which can never be filled. His sister Bessie died in 1906. He leaves to mourn their loss a father, mother, two brothers, Clyde f.nd Wayne, one sister, Mrs. Gladys Murray, and a host of friends and associates. t Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. F. Ashley Wednesday afternoon and interment was made rtt the Chapel cemetery at Monon.
