MONDAY HOSPITAL NOTES. Mrs. David .Zeigler’s condition is very serious. Vilas Price continues to improve. Rodger Smith, Mrs. Alva Jay, Opal Hankins and Mrs. J. N. Leatherman are all doing nicely. \ \ A Margaret Seitier is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Geib, of Remington, are the happy parents of a daughter, which arrived Sunday. Ruth Prather was able to go home this morning. . Orville Stephenson is doing quite well. Mrs. P. W. Merritt and baby are improving., The following tonsillectomies were performed on the following today: Baby Burley, Mrs. Winfred Beagley Oshia, Loraine Wilson, Maxine Elijah, Elizabeth Hinton, all of Newton county. . OFF TO ANNUAL CONFERENCE. Rev. G. F. Kramer, of the Barkley M. E. church, and Rev. E. W. Strecker, pastor of the First Methodist church of this city, left today for Terre Haute, where they will attend the annual conference of the Methodist Episcopal church in that city.
MAY GET AIRPLANES. All conditions have been met and Rensselaer is sure to be visited by airplanes during the Fourth Liberty Loan drive. NOTICE TO WAR MOTHERS. The War Mothefs of Marion township will entertain the War Mothers ( of the other townships of the county Saturday, September 28. There will be a roll call in the parlor of the Presbyterian church at 11:30 a. m. ‘Lunch will be served at noon. G. W. Royster went to Aurora, 111., today. Mrs. Kate Watson went to Oak Park, 111., today for a visit with friends. Alva Potts returned to Gary this morning, where he has and excellent position in the steel mill. Mrs. S. C. Irwin is spending two weeks with her friend, Mrs. G. C. Sherman, Of Minneapolis.
Private Owen Simons, of Purdue, spent Sunday here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Simona. Sergeant Major Jesse Wilcox, of Fort Benjamin Harrison, is spending a short furlough with relatives here. Captain William Guthrie, of Monticello, came today to look after his farm near the A. O. Moore place in Hanging Grove township. Isaac Wells, of Attica, came this morning, having been called on account of the death of his father, C. B. Welle. E. J. Gamester, W. C. Babcock, W. H. Parkinson, William Eigelsbach and Ross Blarney went to Chicago this morning. The three latter will enlist in the tank service. Mrs. M. P. Warner returned this morning from Delphi, where she had ibeen to visit relatives. Her brother, and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Holmes, are leaving Delphi for Buffalo, where they will live in the future.
Attorney A. K. Sills, of Monticello, was in Rensselaer today. Mr. Sills is chairman of the White County Republican Central committee, and reports that indications are that White county will roll up an abnormal majority for the Republican ticket in November. A Norweigian experimenter has perfected a new combined electrolytic and evaparotion process for obtaining salt from sea water and the Government will foster the establishment of plants in that country.

For determining the character of the bottom of inland water ways sounding leads containing microphones have been invented, mud bottoms producing dull noises on vessels using the devices and stony bottoms a series of taps. A Frenchman has invented a watch on which a single hand, carrying a numeral to designate the hour travels across a semicirclular scale with the minute marks, then disappears and is succeeded by another hand for the next hour.
