Marjorie Vanatta returned from Lafayette this morning. . L. W. Snow went to Nappanee today for a short visit with friends and relatives. L. B. Sayler, of Medaryville, after a short visit here, went to Wheatfield to visit his mother. Private Bert Avis returned today to Camp Taylor, after spending a fiveday furlough here with his wife. Judge B. B. Berry, of Fowler, was here today en route to -Chicago. His family made the trip through to that city by automobile. Miss Alice Eib, of Barkley township, has again taken up her duties as primary teacher in the public schools of Elwood. Mrs. Jay Newels, wife of Lieutenant Nowels, arrived Thursday from Camp Shelby, where she had been for sometime with her husband. Mrs. W. A. McCullough and two daughters, of Dover, Ohio, came today for a vsiit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grimm, who live near Gifford.
Mrs. Josiah Davisson and sister, Mrs. David Overton, went to Hammond today to visit the latter’s daughter, Irene Ballinger. Vera Pierce returned to her home in Westfield today after a visit with her former college-mate, Mabel Waymire.

Mrs. John Braddock left this morning for Camp McClellan, Alabama, where she will visit with her huSband, who may leave for overseas duties in a very short time. James McCord and daughter, Mattie McCord, of Spencer, lowa, and who had been visiting with the former’s brother,' Frank McCord, went to Terre Haute today. Mrs. Simon Fendig, of Wheatfield, was in Rensselaer today. She reports that she received letters regularly from her son, Allen, who is a corporal and in active service in France. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Blue accompanied Mrs. Fendig to this city.
