FIRST WINTER HAT STYLES
Bird Breasts, Ruchlngs and Quillings, Bows, and All Sorts of Tops—■ Many Can Make Their Own. Just at this time of the year there begins to be a sprinkling of winter hats among the summer things still piled in the shops. All sorts of devices and semi-made fancies appear—bird breast, ruchlngs and quillings, bows, and there are all sorts of tops which can be mounted so that very little skill is required to make an old hat into a new. One of these little transformation first aids is a small toque of pheasants’ breasts. The crown will fit directly over a small hat and there are two little mercury wings rising from the side to add height and needed trimming. Wreaths of small ostrich tips are waiting first to be placed over the crown of a hat with a wide brim to receive a stitch or two and thus, to bring about a transformation. All of these helps are welcomed by the woman who likes to and can njake her own things.
