A PIONEER RESIDENT OF MT. AYR DEAD
John M. Hufty, a pioneer resident of Mt. Ayr, died at about 10 o’clock Tuesday night after an extended illness, superinduced by old age.-. The funeral services were held at Mt. Ayr at 10 o’clock today and burial made in North Star cemetery. Mr. Hufty was one of the oldest and best known residents of that part of Newton county. For many years be conducted a general store at Pilot Grove, and when the town of Mt. Ayr was established more than thirty-five years ago he moved-thlther. In addition to his store be also conducted a milling business, until failing health compelled him ito abandon both. He has served as justice of the peace for many years, and during the last Cleveland administration was postmaster at Mt. Ayr. , He is survived by the widow and seven children, Will and Jack, of Montana; Ernest and Thomas, of Colorado; A. J. and Harry of Mt. Ayr, and Mrs. Robert J. Yeoman, of Newton township.
