Into the office of the Wall Street Journal there ventured a small boy, awed by the great adventure of getting his first job. Timidly he approached an editor and explained what he wanted. “Hm,” quoth the veteran to the would-be recruit, “It’s too bad, but there are no vacancies now, unless you would like to be managing editor.
