By PAUL J. HUGHES.
Cleveland. Ohio
From the appeals that are being made for soldier tobacco funds one. is likely to get the idea that no man can fight until he has had his tobacco ration. It should be emphasized that tobacco is for the soldier who has the habit before going over, to him a necessity, and General Fer- _ g has recognized this fact and ordered tobacco rations. ere are young recruits who never touched tobacco in their lives, have no craving for it and, in fact, would find difficulty in forming the habit Now, teaching of the tobacco habit is not part of the military curriculum, but if the use of tobacco grows no boy of draft age wi’l think he can be a good soldier until he gets a cigarette in his mouth. Smoking is not a necessity to all men. . <
