MONON WAGE INCREASE FOR LAFAYETTE EMPLOYES

Lafayette, Ind., July 11.—Helpers employed in the various crafts at the Monon railroad shops in this city have received an advance in wages of 21% cents an hour, and boiler making apprentices an advance of 3% cents an hour. The men contended that under the new federal schedule their pay was not sufficient and H. C. May, federal director of the Monon, granted the increase. In the machine shop helpers now receive 31% cents an hour. Helpers in the boiler making departments receive 32% cents and helpers in the roundhouse 33% cents. Fist year apprentices receive 22% cents, second year apprentices 26 cents, third year men 29 3-4 cents and fourth years men 33% cents an hour.
