Isaac Thomas, the Remington lardware merchant, was in this city today. David Gleason, of Keener township, was in Rensselaer on business today. A gentleman from Newland called upon a local physician Saturday to receive medical attention, and was found to be suffering from smallpox. The distinguishing marks of the disease had been present since last Tuesday. The physician immediately placed the man under quarantine and sent him home. Several people had made calls during the presence of the man in the physician’s office. These people were vaccinated and the office thoroughly disinfected, and it ig hoped that there will be no further spred of the disease.
