BREAD PRICES Both flour and substitutes are much higher than a month ago; bread yields are reduced six per cent by the use of the Victory formula; bakers have operated at a loss for months. All these facts, which are amply proved by the figures of the Advisory Board of the Indiana Association of the Baking Industry, warrant an increase in bread prices. The following schedule of prices is considered fair to the baker, dealer and consumer: pound. Retail 3-4 Loaf 08 3-4 loaf (bakery wrapped 08 1 loaf 10 1 loaf (bakery wrapped) 10 1 1-2 loaf 15 1 1-2 loaf (bakery-wrapped) .. 15 In conjunction with your baker advisor see that these prices are maintained. Prices above or below this schedule will be considered as'unfair practices, and must be promptly dealt with. Stop immediately the sale of bread and other wheat products at reduced prices in order to draw trade no other articles on which long profits are made. Using cheap bread as an advertisement increases the consumption and must not be tolerated. ’ — The flour shortage is very acute and only by cooperation can we keep the people of Indiana supplied with bread until the new crop of wheat. Deal promptly—This time for excuses from the bakers is past. H. E. BARNARD, Federal Food Administrator for Indiana. We Most Cheerfully Comply With The Above. O’Riley Golden Loaf Baker

THE KITCHEN IS YOUR FORT ; V — ; __ Don’t waste a thing I —VTurn your garbage can upside down Until the war is over. Eat plenty, but eat the substitutes for wheat, meat, sugar and fats suggested by the Food Administration. . Millions of men are fighting and working in war industries instead of farming and producing food. Starvation faces France, England and Italy. Hunger is. our common enemy as well as the Huns. - fc Lack of food caused the temporary collapse of Italy, and most of the trouble in Russia. Food has been a deciding factor in all wars whether you know it or not. Germany says she can defeat the allies by starvation. Are you going to let her? Germany is well fed; the allies are not. Before the war, Germany was fourfifths self supporting; England only on*fifth; France one-half; Italy two thirds. That is why Germany has the advantage in the Food Fight. 7 One hundred million Americans like you can lick Germany in the Food Fight. You do your part. The total will count.
