AboufOO per cent of the German masons and their helpers are in the military service. Fruit growers of California have declared In favor of the Importation of Chinese “and other labor.” Retail merchants In Los Angeles, Cal., favor earlier closing and have organized with this object in view. Thirty women wearing khaki trousers are working as pipefitters in a large New Jersey chemical plant. Membership of the Austrian trade unions has been reduced nearly 60 per cent by the effects of the war. In pearly all the shipbuilding plants in England and Scotland women are employed In large numbers. One plant alone employs over 6,000 of them.
