Origin of the Ukulele.

There are 20,000 Portuguese tn the Hawaiian islands, and It Is charged that these people, and not the natives, are responsible for the ukulele. It has long been a matter of common knowledge that the instrument was Introduced into the islands by a Portuguese, but that is not really the question of greatest moment So long as the ukulele was confined to Hawaii it was almost as harmless as a banjo, the guitar, or the mandolin.
