RENSSELAER DEFEATS LOWELL BASKET TEAM
The husky Lowell high school basket ball tossers went down in defeat at the hands of the locals in a bitterly fought contest in the opera house gymnasium at Lowell Friday evening. The game furnished plenty of thrills from the time the referee’s whistle blew calling play until the final gong. Owing to their victory over Rensselaer here a few weeks ago, Lowell entered the game confident of a fairly easy victory, but this confidence was rudely dashed aside when during the first minute of play, the Collins combination 'rolled in two easy field baskets. From this point on to the end of the game .every point was strongly contested;
At the end of the half the score stood 12 to 7 in favor of the locals. During the second session our boys were handicapped to a degree by the absence of McLain, who, on account of illness, was forced to retire. Babcock, who took his place, and Phegley seemed to have trouble in determining which was basket guard and which floor guard. The game was featured by the spectacularly aggressive tactics of Leland Collins and Phegley, although all the boys put up a very scrappy game. This victory brings the district championship again within reach of the home team. The official score and lineup follows: Rensselaer—Pullins, c; Collins, f; Paul Collins, f; Phegley, g; McLain, g; substitute, Frank Babcock. Lowell—Miniger, f; Brownell, f; Little, c; Bahan, g; Love, g. Score Rensselaer 17, Lowell 15. Baskets, Pullins, 2; L. Collins, 4; P. Collins, 2 and 1 foul.
